Taproot Earth
Overview
Climate Finance is broken. Communities in the global south need funding to address the impacts of climate change. But that funding mostly comes in the form of loans from rich nations. Those loans saddle poorer nations with unsustainable levels of debt, and they end up spending more on interest than preparing for floods, fires, and more intense storms.
In this video, Taproot Earth announces their new report: Climate Finance for Repair. It shows that there’s a better way to fund climate solutions — one where local communities lead, and where decision-making lies in the hands of people most affected by the climate crisis.
Production
Working from a script and storyboards developed by NewWorld, and using footage provided by Taproot Earth, we edited a cinematic trailer that reflects the urgency of this moment, and showcases the people working on the ground, building movements to change the system.
The music turned out to be essential to this piece. We spent hours obsessing over the right tracks, where the cues would fall, and how they would accentuate our transitions. Using nuanced sound design and subtle moments of animated text to emphasize Taproot Earth’s vision, we crafted a story arc that plants a flag on what climate justice looks like, and defines what climate finance can become.
